Electrostatic powder coating is the most efficient and effective method of applying paint to a metal surface.
It is a dry finishing process and involves the application of finely ground particles of paint pigment and resin to the pre-prepared steel or aluminium using a spray gun, which applies an electrostatic charge.
These electrically charged particles are accelerated towards and attracted to the earthed metal substrate where they settle and coat the entire surface. Unlike liquid painting, no solvents are used in powder coating, resulting in the elimination of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) being released into the atmosphere.
After application of the powder coating, the sprayed parts enter a curing oven where the heat causes the coating to melt, flow and form a soft film, which then sets hard into a tough, solid, protective layer. The chemical reaction that occurs to the coating in the curing oven produces long molecular chains, which are very resistant to breakdown, producing superior strength, durability, bonding and an exceptional finish.
